Jon Rahm is on his final fairway and hits a pin-seeker of a second, right on line, but the pace is a little off, 30 feet for birdie.

Dustin Johnson is coming in from a similar distance but he's almost shanked his second. The ball screws out wide right. Wow. A real high-handicapper shot there from the 2016 champion.

Jordan Spieth, meanwhile, is taking a penalty drop after a wayward drive. He hits a great third to 15 feet. Good look for a par.

I think the camera angle is making Im Sung-jae look more hunched over his ball in the bunker than he actually is.

Whatever the stance, he plays a lovely shot, flicking the ball to four feet. But another shot goes. He misses the par putt and the South Korean is suddenly sliding away.

Im Sung-jae probably can't get to the end of his round quickly enough. An hour or so ago golf was the easiest game in the world as he moved top of the pile at five under par, with no bogeys.

But reaching the summit seems to have unsettled the Korean a bit. And he's just tugged his tee shot into the sand protecting the left edge of the green on the long eighth. It's called Sahara and is about 100 yards in length.

Matt Wallace's first round concludes with a par at the ninth. It's been a battling display from the Englishman who is currently in a tie for 40th.

Viktor Hovland's ball scurries across the drivable par-four 17th into the back bunker. It was always going to be hard to stop that with a driver.

Collin Morikawa finds the left greenside bunker, which now welcomes Scottie Scheffler's ball.

Jon Rahm is out with the putter from off the front of the eighth green and he's judged that pretty well, the ball pulling up four feet short.

From an almost identical position, Jordan Spieth gives his putt a bit more of a biff and his ball is equidistant to Rahm's on the other side of the hole.

Pars all round.

Middle of the fairway, splashed onto the green and nailed a distance birdie putt.

Very little emotion from the bronzed American, but this looks like the Koepka who has won five major championships.

He closes round one two shots off the lead.

Dustin Johnson out with a three-wood on the long par-three eighth. Just the 276 yards today. He's over the front bunker and running up to the front edge.

Jordan Spieth has hit 13 out of 16 greens in regulation and this won't be a 14th in 17. He urges his ball to fly further but it lands short and leaves him with a chip on from about 20 yards short.

Jon Rahm is the last to play. He's hit the same number of greens in regulation as Jordan. And he pretty much matches Jordan's tee shot.

Not that long ago Matthieu Pavon was perched right near the top of the leaderboard but with a double on the third and a bogey on the fourth his name has dropped dramatically.

Viktor Hovland is rewarded for a fine tee shot on the 16th as he sinks a putt from eight feet.

His iron play has been breathtaking at times and he may well think he could be a couple of strokes better off here.

Regulation pars for Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth on the seventh hole. Bit more of a scramble for Dustin Johnson who plays a high-tariff flop from the rough to save his par.

I talked about the easiest hole on the course and big-game hunter Brooks Koepka plunders it, driving the green and pocketing a birdie.

Just as Cameron Young gets into our live text again, he slithers a touch off our radar.

In fact, it's a very impressive putt we see him sink - about 16 feet - but that's to save a bogey.

No (see 22:59 post). But Scottie Scheffler goes close and then remarkably misses the return from just outside three feet. Wow. That will hurt. The world number one has six bogeys on his card.

Viktor Hovland's fine third counts for nowt as his putt scurries down to the cup and just catch the lip.

Ah, apologies. Im Sung-jae's ball avoided the bunker and he got a decent lie in the rough. That allowed him to chunk his ball on to the green and it finishes three feet from the hole.

A bit of a fortunate par but there are no pictures on the scorecard.

So we finally get a shot of Sam Burns doing something other than putting and that's because he's making a meal of getting out of a greenside bunker.

Taking two attempts on the 16th was not the plan and a missed par putt makes it a costly double bogey.

Im Sung-jae settles the nerves with a regulation par on the fifth hole but then puts himself in a spot of bother on the short sixth.

His tee shot starts right and stays there. Bunker. Short-sided.

Not for the first time today Scottie Scheffler's ball disappears into the rough down the right.

Viktor Hovland is in a similar situation and vents his frustration as his ball strays further into the rough with a pretty poor second. Was he guilty of trying to do too much there?

His third is a hack and hope and he runs his ball into around 12 feet.

Scheffler also somewhat retrieves his situation, finding the left fringe of the green. Can he chip this in?

The par-three 16th is yet another hole with a giant green and Brooks Koepka is miles over the opposite side to the flag.

His birdie attempt is a touch tentative but he confidently tucks his ball home for par.

Woe for Justin Thomas though as he bogeys 16.
